We now have two practices under our belts and the kids have done a great job. We have worked on some of the key skills, drills and moves that they will use all year (and beyond this year). Each practice we will work to build on what we have learned - we strive to teach the new wrestler and continue to challenge the experienced ones.

Our schedule should be fairly consistent throughout the year, but remember that we are at the mercy of the school. We will practice on Tuesday and Thursday nights throughout the year unless there is a conflict at the school or Henrico schools are closed because of weather. We will do our best to send email reminders when this changes. This website will also be a resource - please see the calendar attachment to the site if you are ever unsure.

The 20 08-09 Season is upon Us!

The season begins with registration on November 17th from 6:30pm - 7:30pm at Byrd Middle's small gym and soon after, practices to begin the first week of December; of course, more information to follow on practice schedules. The coaches are excited for another great, great year. We hope to see you there, at Registration.

Off Season Wrestling

I hope that everyone is having a safe and happy spring. As you complete your plans for summer, keep in mind that there are several opportunities to get on the mats throughout the break.

Our own Coach Faglioni is offering a Freeman Wrestling Camp on June 23-26. I am not sure if he still has open spots, so email him at Coachfaglioni@comcast.net with any questions.

http://centralregionwrestling.net/ is also a good source of information on summer camps, individual tournaments, and year-round clubs.

Once the fall rolls around, I will send out new updates on our club as we prepare for the season. In the meantime, do not hesitate to contact me at our new email address byrdmetro@gmail.com.

Congratulations on a great year are in store. Please come to the end-of-year party on Wednesday February 13 in the Byrd Cafeteria. We will have pizza for the whole family, team pictures, and special awards for the kids to congrulate them for their great season.

Also, please return your singlet at the party. We will have a table set up, but please use masking tape to put your name on it as well.

FINAL TOURNAMENT

We have our final tournament this weekend at Freeman. This weekend will feature full round robin wrestling, so it will last longer than previous weeks. We will do an award presentation at the end of the day to all wrestlers in each bracket highlighted by the medalists (Gold, Silver, and Bronze).

Please arrive at 12:30 as we normally do for warm-ups.

Practice this week will be held on Tuesday and Thursday. We will do a couple drills, but we will mostly focus on having fun with games and live wrestling.

TEAM PICTURE

Please arrive at or before 12:30 on Sunday 2/3, so that I can get the kids together for a team picture. This is our last regular season match before the end of year tournament on February 10.

We are having a PIZZA PARTY on Wednesday February 13th in the Byrd Cafeteria to celebrate a successful season and congratulate the team. Please return your singlet to the check-in table at the party. The party will start at 6 - we will have pizza, drinks, and cupcakes for the kids. You can pay to get pizza for the rest of the family - please contact Angie Gilson for details.

PRACTICE MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK

The gym is not available on Tuesday and Thursday, so we will practice on Monday (1/7) and Wednesday (1/9) this week. Please see the calendar link on the right.

PRACTICE TONIGHT (1/3/08) - FIRST MATCH ON SUNDAY

We will have practice tonight in our final preparation for our first match of 2008 on Sunday at Douglas Freeman High School (you can get directions in the calendar - link is on the right). Practice will end a little early to allow the coaches to address the kids and the parents together. Please try to be there by 7:20.

For the match, please arrive by 12:30. I will post the things to know to this website tomorrow.

New Practice Schedule Posted

I apologize for the inconvenience of cancelling practice at the last moment. Byrd Middle School had a choral and band concert that was not on the original calendar that was provided to our club. The good news is that the gym is available on Thursday, so we will practice Wednesday (12/12) and Thursday (12/13) this week.

Royal Kids Classic Tournament

There is an open tournament this weekend at Prince George High School. I think that there may be a couple of Byrd Metro kids going. I would recommend this tournament ONLY for experienced/advanced wrestlers. Please see me tonight at practice if you are interested.

Thank you for your interest and support of Byrd Metro. Registration is now closed. We have an excellent group of "inspired" young wrestlers whose energy is going to make this a terrific season. Oh, dont forget practice tonight 12/05 at Byrd's small gym (the usual spot).
